How to do it
① Ask AI:
"Is [movie title] appropriate for a [age]-year-old? What should I know about scary scenes, language, or themes?"
② Get the real talk:
Ask for some suitable alternatives. Or if you're still trying to decide, you can ask if there are scenes you should consider fast-forwarding through or themes you may need to discuss with your child beforehand.
③ Make your call:
You now have enough info to either say yes, suggest an alternative, or explain why it's a "when you're older" movie. You can also ask it to give you a way to explain a “no” to your kids. This can help with disappoint (not always, but worth a shot!).
Pro Tips
⭐For borderline movies:
Type in this prompt. "At what age would this be appropriate and how do I explain why they need to wait?" Also, ask for the explanation, it makes it easier to articulate to your kids why they might have to wait.
⭐AI limitation heads-up:
Sometimes AI will ask if you want timestamps for scenes to fast forward through. It's never been able to do this for me. This is an example of where it makes a suggestion you might want, but can't actually perform the task.
